Luxury on the Murray: New Paddlesteamer 'Australian Sky' to Boost River Cruising
Murray River Paddlesteamers (MRP) is expanding its luxury offerings with the upcoming launch of its second paddlesteamer, the 'Australian Sky,' slated for late 2027. Backed by $7.75 million in Victorian Government funding, this new vessel will join the highly anticipated 'Australian Star' (launching June 2025) in providing premium cruising experiences along the iconic Murray River. The 'Australian Sky' will feature 19 staterooms, including two suites, fine dining, panoramic lounges, and outdoor viewing areas. This expansion, supported by a partnership with APT Travel Group, is expected to significantly boost tourism in the Mildura region, generating an estimated $5.8 million annually and attracting around 4,000 more visitors. The strong early demand for the 'Australian Star,' with 85% of its initial sailings already booked, signals a growing appetite for high-end river cruises in Australia, attracting both domestic and international travelers seeking unique and luxurious experiences.
