Also called the ‘lover paradise’, this estuary has a tragic history – of an unrequited love story between Portuguese Viceroy’s daughter and a Goan fisherman. Dona Paula the daughter of the Viceroy gave up her life when he refused to accept the match. She flung from the cliff jumping into the Arabian Sea. Therefore, to pay an eternal tribute, the Viceroy decided to name the area Dona Paula. The two major rivers of Goa, Mandovi and Zuari met here at the Dona Paula point and connect to the Arabian Sea. Famous movies such as Sigham and Ek duje ke liye were shot here.

Bom Jesus Basilica This beautiful church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the oldest churches of Goa. A silver casket shelters the body of St Francis Xavier in a mausoleum at the top. For the historical enthusiasts, the Bom Jesus Basilica Art Gallery exhibits the works of Dom Martin, a Goan painter. Se Cathedral de Santa Catarina One of the largest churches in India and dedicated the cathedral to Saint Catherine. The Se Cathedral has Corinthian style interiors and exteriors impress with their perfect Tuscan style architecture.

This beautifully intricate, simple, well designed and elegant structure has interesting seven-storeyed lamp tower or deepstambha stands, posited in the temple complex. A tranquil and calm water body, which is said to be the oldest section of the temple soothes the senses and builds religious value.

Every Goan revers this most famous temple of Goa. It is a must-visit for every Hindu in Goa and is venerated and worshipped by the Goans as a whole. The beautiful deity of Shantadurga fills one with awe and respect and has an imposing presence.

This fabulous beach attracts the highest number of tourists throughout the year. It is famous for its trance parties, hosted during the peak tourist season. For those looking for the trance party adventure, Vagator beach is the most happening Goa beach. The thrilling ambience is an exciting draw for the party lovers. Also called as “Little Russia” the beach environs offer a home to several Russian immigrants. In the interest of wildlife preservation, the Goa government has established a Turtle Conservation Interpretation Centre for turtle conservation efforts. It is headquartered at the Forest Office in Pernem but also covers a restricted Morjim Beach portion in Goa. Correspondingly, under Indian law, it is a punishable offence to disturb the turtles in their natural habitat.
